Download YouTube videos in Safari

(Written 12/27/10)

Frustrated with the way YouTube is constantly changing their site so you can’t download their videos?  I was for a while.  But there is still one way that I know of that will still work.  And it works quite well. 🙂

Math Riddle

Here’s a math riddle for all of you to solve.  It was passed along to me via email.  Enjoy!

They say only people with an IQ of 120 and over are able to figure this out.

If:
2 + 3 = 10
7 + 2 = 63
6 + 5 = 66
8 + 4 = 96

Then:
9 + 7 = ????

The number you find is the password to open this link. https://highgear.wordpress.com/2010/07/01/riddle

Easily Download YouTube Movies

UPDATE:  Sorry, as of Summer 2010, this method no longer works.  YouTube has changed the way that their videos are accessed. I’ll continue to keep an eye on this though.

This is perhaps the easiest, fastest, and easiest to setup way to download YouTube movies.  It works in all browsers, Mac, and PC, and the resulting videos are already in the amazing MP4 format that you can drop on your iPod.

All you have to do is copy this javascript and paste it into a bookmark.  When you’re on a Youtube page, click this bookmark, and the movie will download.  Have fun!

javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href=’http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt=’+(isHDAvailable?’22’:’18’)+’&video_id=’+swfArgs[‘video_id’]+’&t=’+swfArgs[‘t’]}

Disabling Flash in Safari (Leopard)

Picture 5I admit it.  One of my biggest nemeses has got to be Adobe Flash.  It’s clunky, it’s weird, it’s slow.  It hogs system resources, and it’s everywhere!  Something like 80% of those dumb animation ads that you see on websites are made up of flash.  What would truly be ideal is if everybody just used javascript for animation, MPEG-4 for video, and small GIFs and JPEGs for ads.  Seriously.  Flash is awful. Deleting Flash Cookies – Mac/Windows

v66In my previous post entitled “Deleting Flash Cookies – Mac OS X,” I showed you how to create a quick Automator script for deleting all of the flash cookies on your mac.  This can be very handy, but should you want to delete only a select few cookies, or perform something similar on Windows, there is actually another method.   Continue reading

IPv6 – A mac fix-it story

MacMiniFor many months now, we’ve had a Mac Mini in our home that was giving us trouble.  We could download huge files with ease, transfer files over network, run Skype, and send emails, but when it came to rendering webpages, both Safari, Firefox crawled to an extremely slow pace, barely loading a simple web page in under 35 seconds.   Continue reading

Deleting Flash Cookies – Mac OS X

networkWhat is a flash cookie? Well, I should start out by saying that there are really only 3 main ways that a website can keep track of you. One is using HTTP cookies, the other is via flash cookies, and the last is using your IP address. Continue reading

So There!

Here’s the story. Throughout my life I have had always had this slight annoyance with the fact that I’ve always been referred to as “Jamie,” when my real name is actually James. I have become accustomed to “Jamie,” but deep down, I’ve always wondered if I was being disloyal to my true name. Continue reading
